Iron Pier Brewery - Moscatel BA Barleywine

Iron Pier Brewery - Moscatel BA Barleywine

Iron Pier Brewery - Moscatel BA Barleywine  - 8.7% abv - 330ml can

Two years ago Iron Pier brewed a Barleywine based on historic Truman’s brewery recipes. It used a vast amount of Goldings hops and as much malt as they could fit into the mash tun. The resulting beer has a rich, sweet malt character with notes of honey and biscuit which is countered by a big firm bitterness.

Truman’s aged their Barleywine for long periods, so Iron Pier did the same, with an added twist. Using ex Moscatel barrels, they aged the beer for two years. The result is an added complexity, with oaky, vinous notes, but with the huge character of the original base beer still shining through

The Iron Pier Brewery Gravesend opened in 2018.The team behind the brewery are head brewer James Hayward, the former owner of the Caveman Brewery and business partner Charlie Venner, previous owner of The Compass Alehouse.

The Iron Pier Brewery is based on a small industrial estate tucked away behind Perry street. The brewery is named after the Gravesend town pier which is the oldest Iron Pier in the World. The brewery also has a taproom which has a great community atmosphere you really should visit when you are next in Gravesend.

Iron Pier produces a range of beers all of which are lovingly crafted, full of flavour and perfectly conditioned. Along with the fantastic beer each can is wrapped with some unique labels featuring the artwork of Gravesend artist and designer Duncan Grant. Many of the beers and the accompanying artwork are inspired by places in Gravesend.
